Driving around Sydney I noticed that a lot of the traffic controllers working on roadside construction projects are lovely Irish girls, instead of the traditional cranky older man with a beer belly. I decided that this would make a great personal project. I got talking to them and a lot of the girls are not backpackers but economic migrants in their late 20’s and thirties and have been working as traffic controllers for a number of years. Most of them have multiple degrees/masters. One girl I spoke to has a masters in town planning and another is nutritionist. There is a lso a full time crew of Irish girls at the Sydney Opera House for the vehicle access and pedestrian safety project.
The Irish Times Weekend Magazine liked the story Idea and featured some of the girls.
